Purchase: Tree Stands I bought the Family Tradition LD14 model at Jim's Amish Structures and Outdoor equipment in St. Johns Michigan. I was driving by the business where I saw an outdoor display along the highway with an interesting looking set of Tree Stands. It took all of 10 seconds of sitting in this stand to decide it was built better, stronger and of higher quality material compared to any stand I've ever seen in the woods or in a display at a store.
Things I like about the Family Tradition LD14 Tree Stands: The first thing you notice about the Family Tradition Tree Stands is their unique webbed seat. The material they use looks like it would last a decade outdoors without getting compromised. It is tough and very comfortable. The 12 foot ladder is a unique desing with a welded reinforment rail positioned 4-5 inches behind the climbing staves. This gives the ladder amazing strength and rigidity. It would be impossible for 2 of the NFL's biggest linemen to twist or bend this ladder. the entire assembly is locked to the tree at seat level with a strap and ratchet system that could be used to tow a heavy pickup out of the woods. The welded galvanized tubing will last forever also. Even the rifle rest bar is the highest quality. To be honest if this review wins a summit tree stand I'll have to give it away. I've already bought the last stand I'll ever need.
What I don't like about the Family Tradition LD14: What I don't like about this unit is the thought that somebody might find it in the woods and walk off with it.
Tree Stands LD14 quality: The LD14 and the other Family Tradition Tree Stands are over-engineered for quality which in my opinion is a good thing when you compare it to the imported flimsy stuff you'll find at the bargain sporting goods stores. Galvanized steel, a durable powder coat finish, a webbed seat that will last for decades and welded steel reinforcements in every critical load bearing component are evidence of the quality in the LD14.
LD14 summary: They may be tough to find and at the high end of the price range for a tree stand, but you'll never have to buy another one because your Family Tradition Tree Stand rusted or broke a weld.
