Tree Stands Manufacturer: API
Review Category: Tree Stands

Purchase: Tree Stands I purchased this item used from a person at my workplace. I paid $150.00 which is also the reason I bought it. Saving money on buying a used stand in comparison to buying a new stand.

Things I like about the API GRAND SLAM SUPREME Tree Stands: I like the comfort of the API Grand slam supreme tree stand. It is a climbing stand. I purchased a foot rest seperately for the stand, which has increased my comfort level dramatically. It feels very secure in the tree, especially with the tie down straps which wrap around the tree and hooks onto both the upper and lower unit. It has a comfortable seat which folds out into a back rest, which can be secured around the tree with attached straps which buckle. The chain is long enough for almost any tree I care to climb. The stand has never slipped and this gives me a sense of security and peace of mind when I am 15 feet up.

What I don't like about the API GRAND SLAM SUPREME: My API Grand slam supreme is heavy. It is alot heavier than my friends Summit viper climbing tree stand. I am 40 years old. I like to hike, but carring a heavy tree stand on my back is becoming less desirable. After throwing a backpack with some extra clothes along with binoculars, etc., the stand becomes too heavy for comfort. I also do not like the way it stands on itself. My friend can stand his Viper upright on it's cables and it rests well. If I stand mine on it's chain, the plastic around the chain will crack. This happens soon enough when scurrying up trees. Then the chain becomes difficult to slip into the tube of the stand where it belongs. The chain eventually loses all its plastic wrap which makes it impossible to attach within the stand. You are not able to easily hang your stand until you buy more plastic wrap which will only last you 2 seasons if you are very lucky.

Tree Stands GRAND SLAM SUPREME quality: The quality of my stand I feel is excellent. The main things I do not like about my stand is the weight and the chain technique of securing to the tree. It has been a good stand. The overall integrity has held up, except the minor problems with plastic wrap on chain.

GRAND SLAM SUPREME summary: Final thoughts. If I had to buy a new stand, I would buy a Summit, unless API changed the chain system to a cable. I have arrived at the age to buy what I want, not buy because I am getting a good deal. I have learned it isn't worth it in the long run.
