Purchase: Hunting Gear Misc Her name was Brit and we got her off a breeder in Omaha, Nebraska. We couldn't make up our mind if we wanted a Brittany Spaniel or German Shorthair Pointer to be our next hunting dog. As I recall we paid $350 for her.
Things I like about the Brittany Spaniel Hunting Gear Misc: Great Bird dog with spirit galore. Seemed to want to prove her worth to us each time we were out. Even once pointed on a ground hog who had already holed. Although she was a Brittany Spaniel she was still a pretty good watch dog and would go on alert at the slighest sound which is a bonus for a hunting dog. Granted she was no Doberman, however she did her part.
What I don't like about the Brittany Spaniel : She was a handfull with the chewing the first year or so. Also a little high strung until she hit around two years old. I guess that is common among hunting dogs with all the pent up energy. We learned to make sure she got more excercise and it really helped.
Hunting Gear Misc quality: Very low maintainence hunting dog. Rarely would she get cuts in the field no matter where or how long we hunted and that's a real plus for a hunting dog.
summary: This dog had abilities you just don't see everyday. Brittany Spaniels are made for birds, but she would run rabbits pretty well also. Definitely seek out a good bloodline and you'll have something. Unfortunately our Brit was hit on the road after getting loose one day and to this day we have no idea just how good a hunter she could have been when she matured past three. Definitely a great hunting dog.
