CVA Optima Black Powder
Black Powder Manufacturer: CVA
CVA Model: Optima
Review Category: Black Powder
Purchase: Black Powder I puchased my CVA Optima at Wal Mart for $179.99. I wanted a afforabale break open muzzleloader and after I put a Nikkon Pro-Staff 2 x 7 scope on it I was just over $300 for the whole set up. I live in New York and we can not use rifles, only shotguns or muzzleloaders. I have been useing the same shotgun for close to 10 years, and missed a buck last year with it. Of course it was the guns fault not mine. So this year I wanted to purchase something more accurate. I would like to purchase a Remington 1187 with a Leupold Scope but that set up it going to run you close to $700. With a limited budget I decided to buy a muzzleloader. I had done quite a bit of shopping and decided that I wanted a break open as opposed to a in line, but I couldn't afford to spend over $300. So I decided on the Optima, and couldn't be happier.
Things I like about the CVA Optima Black Powder: This gun is incredibly simple, pull out the breech plug and that is it. It is easy to clean, easy to opperate and is outstandingly acurate.
What I don't like about the CVA Optima: The gun is very heavy, but all muzzlelaiders are.
Black Powder Optima quality: I have the black barrel with the black composite stock. The gun reminds me of a break open shotgun, pull the lever and it opens put the primer in and close it. The breech is entirly sealed which guards against water in the breech.
Optima summary: Great gun for the price. Easy to use, clean and shoot.
