CVA Optima Pro in 45 cal. Black Powder
Black Powder Manufacturer: CVA
CVA Model: Optima Pro in 45 cal.
Review Category: Black Powder
Purchase: Black Powder it was purchased from Cabelas on-line $299.00 for nickel barel and cabelas brand 3x9 scope. I was buying through the catalog to avoid sales taxes. Missouri has an season for muzzel loaders only, and I wanted to extend my hunting season.
Things I like about the CVA Optima Pro in 45 cal. Black Powder: 45 cal is extremly accurate. Bullets touch at 50 yrds and group in 2 inches at 100 yrds. It's very easy to clean, and comes with high quality Iron sights with fiber-optic inserts. I'm sure there are finer finished rifels, and ever some that may be more accurate, but not in my price range.
What I don't like about the CVA Optima Pro in 45 cal.: If you use the maxium amount of powder it looses it's accuracy as do all muzzel loaders, and the 45 needs to be cleaned more ofter than a 50 cal. I would recomond a 45 cal without springing the extra $ for a nickel barrel.
Black Powder Optima Pro in 45 cal. quality: It's a fine looking rifle the only problem I have had is the tab on the action release lever has fell off twice, but it's nothing that some lock-tite can't fix. The cabelas brand scope it came with was junk and was replaced, but that's another review this one is just on the rifle.
Optima Pro in 45 cal. summary: For the money it's a great buy. Extreamly reliable, accurate, and good looks. That is unless you like real wood. CVA does not have wooden stocks, but I buy my guns to hunt with and like the synthetic stock. My first season with it ended with a harvested deer. 100 grains of powder and a 195 grain bullet will drop a deer where it stands. Misson accomplished. What more can be asked from a rifle?
