Purchase: Crossbows Purchased off the shelf at Gander Mountain for $299. Package included the crossbow, Horton 3 dot multi-range red dot scope, quiver, 4 arrows with practice points, rail lube, instructions and safety/general info video. Did a lot of research and talking to archery shop personnel to try and get the best value for money. Archery staff at place of purchase were extremely helpful and ability to try out a display model on the in store range was invaluable.
Things I like about the Horton Explorer XL-150 Crossbows: Assembly was offered at store, but simple home assembly took about 5 minutes - it comes in two pieces and assembles with with one allen screw. Allen key is provided. Instructions were easy to understand. Safety/info video was useful. Easy to cock without an aid. Safety sets automatically when it is cocked. Handles well.
What I don't like about the Horton Explorer XL-150 :

Explorer XL-150 summary: The Horton Explorer XL-150 is very easy to get used to. Once sighting in was done it was easy to put shot after shot into 1 to 1 1/2 inch groups at 25 yards from the offhand position. From the bench you will need to retrieve the arrow after each shot or you will ruin the first arrow with your second shot - it is that consistent! A steady hand will will easily result in 9 out of 10 arrows in the same hole in the target. This 150 pound crossbow is extremely capable on whitetails. 150lb 4pt at 15 yards and a 200lb 9pt at 30 yards were shot with this crossbow this year. Both shots were pass-throughs. Ability to put arrows on target produced two quick kills. There are better crossbows out there, but for the money this package is outstanding. Highly recommended!
