Purchase: I purchased the Megallan Platinum for hunting & fishing. I also purchased the Topo cd for ($99) and additional memory.
Things I like about the Megallan Platinum: I love the large display screen and button configuration. It is easy to handle for those that have large hands. The orientation features are a plus. This unit is water proof due to the housing design. Downloading/uploading data is accomplished with ease. I have lived on the coast of Oregon & now in Montana. I have yet to fail to connect to minimum of two satelites.
What I don't like about the Megallan Platinum: This unit is a bit larger than most. You must read & understand all instructions to get full benefit from the unit. Tracking features do not always line up with topo maps, such as logging roads.
Platinum quality: Excellent quality - no issues.
Platinum summary: I have owned this unit now for over two years. I am still happy with the unit and would not trade it in except for maybe the colored version
