Trail Cameras (m-s) Manufacturer: Moultrie
Moultrie Model: Digital game spy
Review Category: Trail Cameras (m-s)
Purchase: Trail Cameras (m-s) I bought this Moultrie Digital Gamespy trail Camera while shopping at walmart. I was $184 and thats cheap for a digital game camera so I thought I would give it a try.
Things I like about the Moultrie Digital game spy Trail Cameras (m-s): This camera is very well set up and super easy to use. Nice controls and features can't beleive how nice it's sey up for the price it cost.I bought a Lexar 128 SD card for the unit it will hold 302 high pixel pics and over 1000 in low pixel mode. It takes about 3.5 seconds to trigger which is about average for a digital trail camera some take as long as 5+ seconds I only had 3 empty pics out of teh last 100+ pcis I got at a feeder site.Overall everything just works perfect so far.One thing on batterys don't buy the cheap 6volts a walmart they will only last days. Buy enegizer 6vlot they will last for weeks. I am using a sealed gel rechargeable 4.5 amp 6volt myself it has being going for weeks and taken over 500 pics most at night still shows nearly 50% charge left! When its down I can just recharge no batts to buy no film to process know thats alot of money save in the long run!
What I don't like about the Moultrie Digital game spy: For a digital trail camera costing $189 I guess maybe it will not be perfect so heres what I don't like. First the give you these tiny strings with werid clasp to attach it to the tree. They are a joke I bought some rubber cords like you strap stuff down with much better. second the locking cable is small/thin so I use a python cable from walmart through the pad lock on the box and around the tree works out good and helps firm the camera up to the tree also. Next the flash says 30 ft forget that more like 20 ft which is about normall for all digital trail cams from the ones I have seen. Last the night pics sometimes have a grid or lines in the day time are perfect. Also buy the lexar brand Sd cards. I was told many of the cheaper Sd cards around will not work well with this camera format wise. The lexar 128mg was only $25 anyway.
Trail Cameras (m-s) Digital game spy quality: The construction seems alright no the best I have seen not the worse I have seen.
Digital game spy summary: Overall, I like the camera it is what it is a $189 digital camera. The pics are good enough day and night to do some photo printing and see alot of detail for scouting. The night pics don't seem to be as nice as a $400 trail camera but they are good enough for my use.The camera works well and has a good PIr sensor it misses little if any action and has OK trigger time. I would say if you were looking for a scouting camera this would be great. If you were going to be print9ing out 8X10's of everything you get a pic off go buy the $500 trail camera.
