Buck Knives Alpha CrossLock PBS Hunting Knives
Hunting Knives Manufacturer: Buck Knives
Buck Knives Model: Alpha CrossLock PBS
Review Category: Hunting Knives
Purchase: Hunting Knives I Purchased the Crosslock in November 2004 at Bass Pro shop. I paid $69.00 if I recall correctly.
Things I like about the Buck Knives Alpha CrossLock PBS Hunting Knives: The Unit is very functional for field dressing. I dressed 1 deer last year with it and using the saw blade made splitting the pelvis very easy. This blade was also useful in removing small limbs when on stand. The gut hook worked very well and overall the knife performed well.
What I don't like about the Buck Knives Alpha CrossLock PBS: First off the knife is held together with tiny allen screws and in less than six months of hunting use and daily use My knife is now missing one of the allen screws. The loss of the screw has made the knife very loose action and I feel the design could be improved upon. The second dislike is that the drop point blade takes a ton of work to get a good edge on it. I use a lansky system and have knives that are razor sharp but I just cant seem to make this knife into a shaver. I yet have to sent the knife back to buck and have it repaired under the limited lifetime warranty mainly because it is a pain in the butt. I feel I'll send it back it will get repaired and return to daily use and be in the same condition within 6 months again.
Hunting Knives Alpha CrossLock PBS quality: Like I said above the screws used to hold it together are poor design. The steel isn't what I feel it should be. The best quality item is the saw.
Alpha CrossLock PBS summary: If you are going to purchase this knife use it for hunting only. don't user it as a daily use knife and it should perform well in the field during limited use.
