Moultrie Game Watcher 100 1.3 MP Digital Camera Cameras & Accessories

Cameras & Accessories Manufacturer: Moultrie
Moultrie Model: Game Watcher 100 1.3 MP Digital Camera
Review Category: Cameras & Accessories

Purchase: I purchased this unit from Wal-Mart for $98.96 in August 2005

Things I like about the Moultrie Game Watcher 100 1.3 MP Digital Camera: The camera seems to be sturdy enough and even the "standard" pictures (which, so are, are only of me testing the aim of the camera in both day and night) are of fairly good quality from what I've seen. I also like the ease of just being able to hook up to the TV and view your pictures.

What I don't like about the Moultrie Game Watcher 100 1.3 MP Digital Camera: 1)The absolute WORSE thing about this camera is the method of "mounting" it. It comes with nothing more than a couple of "strings" with spring loaded stoppers that are completely useless! There is no "secure" way to mount the camera with this type of hardware like the box suggests!! (unless you nail it........just kiddin.......don't do that) If you tug on the strings a little and it will loosen up. PLUS,(and a big PLUS at that) even if you try and route the strings using the method they show on the box (if your the instruction reading type of person), the stoppers are positioned in such a way that keeps you from opening or closing the box without having to loosen them and move them out of the way which then causes your camera position to move and your back to sqaure one. Gheesh!!An absolute, grade A, pain in the butt! 2) Secondly, It doesn't come with a USB cable. What type of digital camera doesn't come with a USB cable?? Even my son's spider-man camera came with a USB cable! 3) Since I've just put it up recently this part may just be a matter of needing to "play" with it a little more. It just seems that once I get it positioned (even using the laser aiming device) it takes a few passes in front of it for it to finally realize there is movement and take the picture. And that is only about 15 foot awaw.......with a 6 foot 200 lb sweaty man!

Game Watcher 100 1.3 MP Digital Camera quality: Seems to be a sturdy box. Not sure how weatherproof it is yet. We're getting a bunch of rain from Tropical Storm Katrina.....I have a feeling this will be a good test for the quality of the construction.

Game Watcher 100 1.3 MP Digital Camera summary: Bottom line?? The old saying "You get what you pay for" fits here. It was either a 35mm camera for $50 or a digital for $100. I opted for the ease of digital pictures. I've seen other digital camera's that cost anywhere from $200-$400. They are smaller, easier to mount and come with just about all the hardwre you need to get them running....but to justify the cost difference between a $100 camera and a $400 camera........Ehhhhh, I still think it's worth the $100 bucks. You just have to spent a little more time (and aggravation and swearing) "working" with it to find other ways to get it to work best for your situation. It just seems that Moultrie was trying to compete with other MFG's and market the camera too quickly and didn't really field test this product thoroughly enough.
