Review Category: Fishing Misc Equip
Purchase: Fishing Misc Equip The search for a decent pair of quality polorized sunglasses for fishing seems at times to be a neverending quest for most fisherman. Sure you can pick up the typical disposable fare from the colorful twirling rack at the gas station or fork out next month's rent for the latest in status glasses at Orvis. But occasionally the diligent fisherman comes across a model of sunglasses that fits all the crucial parameters including the two most important: quality and price. That's what I found in the Smith Action Optics Breakwater sunglasses that I purchased at Bob Mariott's Fly Fishing store for $65.
Things I like about the Smith Action Optics Breakwater Sunglasses Fishing Misc Equip: In addition to the lightweight and stylish wrap around frame, the Breakwater sunglasses feature shatter resistent polorized polycarbonite lenses. The lenses are billed as "optically correct" and that is what makes Action Optics sunglasses so good. Apparently, they are curved to match the natural curvature of the human lens. I'm not aware if that is true but I can attest to the amazing clarity and lack of distortion in these sunglasses. This, in addition to the polorizing technique of adjucting the polorizing lines on the lens to match the curve, yields a truly astonishing polorization. With most polorized sunglasses one can see the fish in the stream as the sunlight reflection on the surface of the water is removed. But with these lenses you can actually see "through" the water to the fish, almost as if the water didn't exist and you could reach out and touch the fish. The large square lenses at 62 mm are designed for medium to larger faces and I really enjoy the coverage. Nothing is more annoying when fishing than having reflected sunlight blind you from the side or beneath the lenses because the frames are too small for your face. Speaking of frames, the Breakwater model comes in Tortoise frames with a yellow or brown lens and in coal with a copper or gray lens. I chose the coal frame with the copper lens. In addition to the polorization, the copper lens provides another factor important to fisherman: true representation of colors.
What I don't like about the Smith Action Optics Breakwater Sunglasses: With all of these features and a reasonable price, what's not to like?
Fishing Misc Equip Breakwater Sunglasses quality: The Breakwater model of Action Optics sunglasses is a well made example of superb polorized vision Action Optics is so well know for. The impact resistent nature of the lenses and the scratch resistent coating make for some pretty tough sportsman's sunglasses.
Breakwater Sunglasses summary: The bottom line is that you likely won't find a better quality pair of polorized sunglasses at this price anywhere.
