Midland Walkie Talkies

Walkie Talkies Manufacturer: Midland
Midland Model:
Review Category: Walkie Talkies

Purchase: Walkie Talkies I saw the radio's in Cabela's catalogue and ordered them. I ordered them because they were advertised that they would work up to ten miles. The price was 99.99 for two in the camo color pattern.

Things I like about the Midland Walkie Talkies: The only thing I liked about these radio's was the color.

What I don't like about the Midland : The radio's were not designed for hunting. They make a long and loud beep when you turn them on and off. They make a loud beep when you change the channel, turn the volume up and down. While the radio is turned on, any button you press, makes a loud beep. You can't even light the backlight feature to see it in dark without it making a beep. They also will not work at ten miles or even five miles. I tested them on flat/open ground and they faded out at about 4 miles withe a GPA measuring the distance. Another design flaw--while using the vibrate feature, the radio still beeps when you press any of the control buttons. These beeps are not soft tones. I would say these beeps could be heard by a deer at least a quarter of a mile away on a quiet morning or maybe farther. It is really loud in the woods. It even beeps when using the included head set, which totally defeats the purpose of even making a headset for use while hunting. If the only kind of hunting you do is duck hunting, then these radio's will work for you otherwise, forget it!

Walkie Talkies quality: The construction is not good either. The belt clip does not stay on. It dropped off my belt and out of the treestand the first time I used them. Although it did withstand a 25 foot drop. (It did land on a thick bed of leaves) One of the volume buttons stuck on the other radio. Overall, I would say the quality is fair at best.

summary: I would not buy these radio's if was hunting anything with ears. I have e-mailed the company and called them with no success at all. They won't even call me back.
