Black Powder Manufacturer: Thompson Center
Thompson Center Model: Omega 50 cal. with Thumbhole Stock Blue/ Blk stock
Review Category: Black Powder

Purchase: Black Powder I was interested in trying Black powder shooting. I have a brother in law thats been shooting black powder guns ( all types from flints to in lines)for over 40 years. He just picked up the new T/C Encore rifle and was just floored by its awesome performance out of the box. He shoots competition all year long so with fine tuning, he's shooting dime size groups at 125 yards with 75 grains of powder and 223 powerbelt bullets. He suggested to me to try the Omega rifle. With a little research and talking to various dealers, I decided to purchase the Omega 50 cal. with the thumbhole stock. Purchase was made at Cabelas, only because thay had the model I wanted in stock at the time I was ready to buy. I was told these "Omegas are being purchased as soon as they arrive" so I had to put a hold on 1 and they could only hold it for 24 hours. Being new to Black Powder shooting I had to learn all the basics. But, Really to my surprise it wasn't difficult at all. Price paid was $329.00 Acessories added were a "Claw" sling a BSA 3x-9x 50 mm Red Dot scope, and a Limbsaver recoil pad.

Things I like about the Thompson Center Omega 50 cal. with Thumbhole Stock Blue/ Blk stock Black Powder: Weight and balance are ideal for me. Feel and steadiness with the thumbhole stock. I can shoot this rifle better and more accurate then my Bolt Action Pre 64 Winchester Model 70. Ease of cleaning. Great appearance. The Iron sights that came with the rifle are a great choice for this rifle.

What I don't like about the Thompson Center Omega 50 cal. with Thumbhole Stock Blue/ Blk stock: The only thing that bothers me is after every shot the ram rod pops out of its snap lock. Don't know if this is supposed to happen, But coincidently, the same thing happens on the Encore my brother in law owns.

Black Powder Omega 50 cal. with Thumbhole Stock Blue/ Blk stock quality: OUTSTANDING!

Omega 50 cal. with Thumbhole Stock Blue/ Blk stock summary: If there is anyone out there that has been thinking of trying Black powder shooting or is just thinking about purchasing a modern in line rifle. I would strongly suggest checking out the Omega. I am very happy with the purchase I made. It is a GREAT SHOOTER!
