Purchase: Binoculars I decided to take the plunge into quality a binocular to use for hunting. I paid ~$800
Things I like about the Kahles 10x42 Binoculars: The binoculars are well built and water proof. They have stood the test in wet conditions too, not a single problem with them. When shopping for binoculars I looked at several different brands, including swarovski. I really took my time in shopping and even went to the store near dark so I could look at the difference in light gathering (of course out side the store). In short, the Kahels performed very comparably to the Swarovski's. To be totally honest I could tell that the Swarovski's were a slightly better optic. But the quality difference was not significatnt to me and definetly was not worth the extra 450 dollars. Finally I can say that quality optics do really make a differnce - wish I would have bought good binoculars way back when I first started hunting.
What I don't like about the Kahles 10x42: The lens protectors are kind of a pain. The bottom covers are always coming off when I hike (they are permanently secured so you don't loose them though). The top cover is kinda combersome but works well.
Binoculars 10x42 quality: High quality opics, just slightly less quality than the Swarovski's or other high quality binoculars. If you want excellent binoculars and want to save some cash these are the ones I found to fit the bill.
10x42 summary: Top notch binoculars. My hunting buddy had never looked through quality opics before. He asked to borrow mine for a few minutes while we were on a hunt. He did not know I had shopped for quality optics, or that I had just purchased them, and he really does not pay attention to binoculars. He was imediately impressed without me prompting him in anyway for feed back. He just said, "wow these are great". That sums it up. For my money, these were the best of breed. Sure Swarovski's are a little tiny bit better and if you have an extra $450 to blow buy them!
