Zebco Omega Spincast Reel Fishing Reels
Fishing Reels Manufacturer: Zebco
Zebco Model: Omega Spincast Reel
Review Category: Fishing Reels
Purchase: Fishing Reels I purchased my Omega at Wal-Mart almost two years ago for suggested retail price $49.95.
Things I like about the Zebco Omega Spincast Reel Fishing Reels: Much to my surprise the reel has become my favorite all purpose reel. I'm primarily a bass fisherman and I have never had a problem with or lost a fish due to the reels performance. The largest bass that I've reeled in with it was a 3.75 pound spotted bass. The largest fish I've caught with it was a 8.5 pound Bullhead Catfish! All I do is wipe the cover out with an unscented baby wipe after each fishing trip, keep fresh line in it and lube it once a month. The thing is better than a Swiss Army Knife and just as dependable. The three ceramic pick up pins and oscillating spool make line retrieval effortless. The easy to adjust drag will allow you to land darn near anything that you hook between the 1 to 10 pound range. The reel can even handle braided line! I have baitcasters by Abu Garcia and Bass Pro Shop, and spinning reels by Rapala, but last season I found myself reaching for my versatile Omega more and more. Go figure?
What I don't like about the Zebco Omega Spincast Reel: After all of the heavy use the plating around the reel seat is starting to flake off. I would have liked it better if the entire untit had been machined from aluminum without the plating.
Fishing Reels Omega Spincast Reel quality: The Omega's construction, materials and finish are excellent. Anyone that has fished with a spincast reel, even the high quality Abumatic and Daiwa reels, will find they don't compare with the Zebco Omega. The aluminum housing, the lightness of the unit, the triple ceramic pick up pins, the oscillating spool, the enclosed rubber cast button... I mean the list goes on. This reel sets a standard that all spincasters should have to follow. The Zebco Omega compares to and can compete with baitcasters with as many bearings (6). The Omega is the pinnacle of spincast technology.
Omega Spincast Reel summary: If anyone can make a better spincast reel I'll buy it. If they would make the entire body out of aluminum I would pay more than the current $50.00 retail price. I never thought that I would by another spincast reel for anyone other than my kids, and here I am writing a review about one.
