Purchase: Bass Fishing Reels Purchased the Bass Pro Royal Express combo as a first baitcast rod/reel combo. Purchased it at the Bass Pro Shop in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. for $49.99 plus taxes.
Things I like about the Bass Pro Shops RX10H /Royal Express combo Bass Fishing Reels: Rod was nice and thin for a medium heavy action rod. Made of IM 8 graphite with the Fuji alum oxide guides. Very sensitive rod. Reel is compact and comes with 8 bearings ; retrives are smoking fast at 6.3:1 ratio. Pulled in a 2 lb. largemouth about 20 ft out in about 10 seconds. Sturdy reel case with beautiful red finish.
What I don't like about the Bass Pro Shops RX10H /Royal Express combo: Even with 8 bearings, the retrieve isn't as smooth as I thought it would be. Have to turn the brake very tight so I don't get blacklash. This affects the cast distance so I dont get more than maybe 15-20 yards. The brake so tight makes the retrive very restricted and even though it is fast you can still feel the restriction.
Bass Fishing Reels RX10H /Royal Express combo quality: Rod is very sturdy and flexes well even for a medium heavy action. Cork handle is smooth but firm. Got knocked around a few times and rested it on rocky ground and still no paint chips !
RX10H /Royal Express combo summary: Great rod/reel with the latest features such as IM8 graphite, Fuji oxide guides, anti-reverse, 6.3:1 ratio (it's fast) adjustable ITB and external brakes. All that for such a great price. If they got the spool a bit smoother on retrieve it would be the best bang for the buck at the Bass Pro Shops.
