Buck Knives Model 119 Special Hunting Knives
Hunting Knives Manufacturer: Buck Knives
Buck Knives Model: Model 119 Special
Review Category: Hunting Knives
Purchase: Hunting Knives I purchased this knife from my local Canadian Tire for hunting about 4 years ago. Paid $60 Canadian.
Things I like about the Buck Knives Model 119 Special Hunting Knives: I like the heavy duty feel to this knife. I also like the perfect balance immediately behind the polished aluminum guard. The included leather sheath is well made, with a drainage hole in the bottom, a generously sized belt loop, and a hard snap to keep your knife secured. It has a fixed blade, and holds an edge long enough to entirely skin (and sometimes debone) a nice fat doe. Comfortable in the right or left hand. Very sleek look to it, and it really looks like a "hunting man's" blade. The phenolic handle doesn't get too cold in the winter, even when the temperature drops below -20 F.
What I don't like about the Buck Knives Model 119 Special: I'm not entirely crazy over the polished aluminum butt and guard on the knife. It shines brightly in the sun, and usually means that I leave the knife in the truck while I'm out in the bush so I don't risk spooking a buck. Also, the knife rattled around slightly in the plastic casing inside the sheath, but seems to have remedied itself over the past few years.
Hunting Knives Model 119 Special quality: Awesome construction and quality. The blade has stayed tight in the handle, and the blade has not bent, even though I sometimes have the bad habit of using it as an "all-around" knife and screwdriver.
Model 119 Special summary: A superb knife. For the price I paid for it, I am extremely happy. The only thing I would change about it would be to put a wooden handle on it (simply because I like the feel of wooden handles better).
