Hunting Gear Misc Manufacturer: Winchester
Winchester Model: Model 70 Featherweight .270 WSM
Review Category: Hunting Gear Misc
Purchase: Hunting Gear Misc I bought Winchester's Model 70 Featherweight in .270 WSM at my local Wholesale Sports. Paid about $900 Canadian. I had intended to (and have since) used it on Whitetail, and Mule deer, as well as Black bears, Moose, and Antelope. I have yet to try it on Elk, Sheep, and Goats.
Things I like about the Winchester Model 70 Featherweight .270 WSM Hunting Gear Misc: I loved almost everything about this rifle the second I laid eyes on it. Schnabel fore-end, and traditional checkering on the stock give it warm and "lived-in" look. It has an amazing feel in the hands, light, and naturally very quick handling. Extraordinary sub M.O.A. out-of-the-box accuracy. The 24" barrel length gives it great accuracy while not weighing it down too awful much. Great balance. The three positon safety has got to be the safest on the market, allowing a firing position, a position that allows the safety to be on while keeping the bolt unlocked for loading and unloading, and a safe position with the bolt locked. Three round magazine capacity, plus one round in the chamber. I also like the controlled round feed, allowing me to extract the shell just far enough that I can catch it for reloading.
What I don't like about the Winchester Model 70 Featherweight .270 WSM: The only thing I didn't like about this unit is that the trigger pull was too heavy, out of the box, and affected the aim of the rifle. They changed it right there at the store for me, free of charge.
Hunting Gear Misc Model 70 Featherweight .270 WSM quality: Amazing construction, and quality that I never could have dreamed of before, having owned only used rifles.
Model 70 Featherweight .270 WSM summary: An amazing buy, and one that I pat myself on the back for every time I see it. The .270 WSM has proven to be a great calibre for me, and every animal I shot with it was dead in one shot (except for one whitetail doe, and I strongly believe that was a quality control problem with the ammunition, as it seemed to simply shatter on impact with the muscle.)
