CVA OPTIMA ELITE .50/.270 COMBO SS RTHD Black Powder
Black Powder Manufacturer: CVA
CVA Model: OPTIMA ELITE .50/.270 COMBO SS RTHD
Review Category: Black Powder
Purchase: Black Powder I PURCHASED THE COMBO AT BASS PRO AND PAID $530 BEFORE TAX. I WANTED A SINGLE SHOT RIFLE WITH INTERCHANGABLE BARRELS, BUT DIDN'T LIKE THE PRICE OR THE TRIGGER ON THE T/C ENCORE. I WAS CONFIDENT PURCHASING A CVA BECAUSE OF MY EXCELLENT EXPERIENCE WITH THE OPTIMA PRO MAGNUM MUZZELLOADER.
Things I like about the CVA OPTIMA ELITE .50/.270 COMBO SS RTHD Black Powder: I REALLY LIKED THE FACT IT WOULD ACCEPT RIFLE AND MUZZLELOADER BARRELS. CVA ONLY OFFERED THE ELITE IN A FEW (I THINK ONLY 3)RIFLE CALIBERS WHEN IT WAS FIRST INTERDUCED, BUT THEY HAVE DOUBLED THE OPTIONS IN ONLY 1 YEAR. HOPEFULLY THEY WILL CONTINUE TO ADD OPTIONS. THE TRIGGER IS NOT "TARGET" QUALITY, BUT I WOULD GUESS 3LB MAXIMUM. NOT TO MENTION IT COMES EQUIPED WITH A QUAKE SLING.
What I don't like about the CVA OPTIMA ELITE .50/.270 COMBO SS RTHD: THE BAR THAT HAS TO BE REMOVED TO CHANGE THE BARRELS CAN BE A LITTLE DIFFICULT. HOPEFULLY IT WILL GET BETTER WITH TIME. FOR THOSE OF YOU (LIKE MYSELF) THAT LIKE TO ATTACH A BIPOD TO THE FOREND SWIVLE STUD, THE RIFLE DOES NOT COME EQUIPED WITH ONE. THE "STUD" IS MOLDED TO THE END OF THE FOREND TO RECEIVE A SLING. THIS IS EASILY FIXED WITH A STUD THAT WILL ACCEPT A NUT TO HOLD IT IN PLACE. THESE OF COURSE ARE MINOR COMPLAINTS, I PERSONALLY THINK THE POSITIVES MORE THAN OUTWEIGH THE NEGATIVES.
Black Powder OPTIMA ELITE .50/.270 COMBO SS RTHD quality: MINE IS STAINLESS/RTHD CAMO SYNTHETIC STOCK. THE ENGRAVING IS A LITTLE CHEEZY, BUT I PERSONALLY DON'T PUT LOOKS OVER FUNCTION. THE GUN OPENS SMOOTH AND IT FEELS SOLID WHEN IT IS CLOSED. I LOVE THEIR STOCK DESIGN, IT FEELS GOOD WHEN SHOOTING. THE RECOIL PAD IS NICE AS WELL. THIS 270 DOESN'T SEEM TO KICK AS HARD AS MY OTHER BOLT ACTION DID. NICE LOOKING RIFLE AND FEELS GOOD IN MY HANDS.
OPTIMA ELITE .50/.270 COMBO SS RTHD summary: I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT TO ANYONE. I WAS REALLY SOLD AFTER MY FIRST TRIP TO THE RANGE. AFTER 3 ZEROING SHOTS AT 50 YARDS THE 270 GROUPED AN INCH AT 100 YARDS, WHICH IS GREAT WHEN I'M BEHIND THE TRIGGER. I HAVEN'T SHOT THE .50 AT 100 YET, BUT IT SHOT AN INCH AT 50 YARDS ON THE FIRST 3 SHOTS (REMEMBER EACH BULLET LEAVES A 1/2 INCH IN THE PAPER). GREAT PRODUCT FOR ABOUT $300 LESS THAN YOU WOULD PAY FOR AN ENCORE ML/RIFLE COMBO.
