Nikon Action series 10x50 6.5 degrees Binoculars

Binoculars Manufacturer: Nikon Action series
Nikon Action series Model: 10x50 6.5 degrees
Review Category: Binoculars

Purchase: Binoculars For hiking, hunting, bird-watching and spying on neighbors. Hey, just kidding. I replaced a cheap pair with the Nikon's at a price reduced $20 by Boscov's department store, and an additional $20 by Nikon via rebate. I paid $80. The cheaper pair had cost $35.

Things I like about the Nikon Action series 10x50 6.5 degrees Binoculars : I was able to compare the Nikon and cheaper pairs, and the outstanding difference, coming as no surprise, lay in the Nikon lenses' ability to gather light. Lenses may look alike, and the exteriors and mirror arrangment of both binoculars are practically identical, but the Nikon's allow brighter images from dawn to dusk, and even during normally bright daylight. I suppose the difference is even more crucial for hunters with less than perfect vision. Clarity of objects focused upon in turn appear to depend heavily on how well the light is captured. As much as I expected from a decent, if not most expensive, pair.

What I don't like about the Nikon Action series 10x50 6.5 degrees: Cheap plastic lens protectors are not easily placed on and off and may as well be thrown away pronto. The case is solid and velcro'd, so you don't need lens covers if you use the case. An easily remedied complaint in any case.

Binoculars 10x50 6.5 degrees quality: Solid. Nikon has a great, deserved reputation as the manufacturer of camera and other lenses. I owned a Nikon F-2 for years with several interchangeable lenses that always satisified, and while binocluar lenses are not in quite the same category, they are certainly adequate for my needs.

10x50 6.5 degrees summary: Focusing on the same objects during the same times of days with both a $35 and a $120 (list) priced binoculars, I'd say the comparatively expensive pair performed about 85% better (120 minus 35), on light and clarity. Without glare. About what you might have expected....
