Remington Genesis Black Powder
Black Powder Manufacturer: Remington
Remington Model: Genesis
Review Category: Black Powder
Purchase: Black Powder Purchased last spring at Gander Mountain for $350. Liked weight and balance of the rifle.
Things I like about the Remington Genesis Black Powder: Solid rifle. Well constructed. Unique feature to this in line muzzleloader is the "torch cam". Cam pivots out of way providing easy access to load in a new primer, even with cold fingers during a late muzzleloader season or if you would have a scope in the way. The cam also provides great weather protection on rainy days. Safety on rifle is on trigger guard - a rare but useful feature on an in-line. Easy to use and extra piece of mind. Stock available in several options. Nickle finished barrel has held up very well despite some heavy shooting. Drilled and tapped for scope, if desired. The standard adjustable fiber optic sights are good however and I have not mounted a scope. I've gotten consistently tight groups, <2" at 75 yards with minor adjustments in loads & bullets. Rifle disassembles quickly & simply with removal of 3 screws on bottom of stock for easy cleaning. Torch cam is also easily cleaned and prevents the need for any removal of black powder residue from the trigger assembly. I've compared the Genesis to a CVA I bought and friends' Traditions and Knight rifles - I'll take the Genesis every time.
What I don't like about the Remington Genesis: Honestly, I have yet to find a flaw.
Black Powder Genesis quality: Solid construction - I have shot this rifle HEAVILY and it looks brand new.
Genesis summary: I know that the Remington name may not be the first thing you think of when it comes to muzzleloaders, but they got it right. Easy to load and prime. Good features. Nice balance. DEAD ON ACCURATE. Easy to clean. It may cost a few more dollars than some of the bottom line models but it is as accurate, dependable and easy to own as any rifle I have seen.
