Purchase: Hunting Boots I was lucky enough to find these boots in the Bargain Barn at my local Cabela's. (sorry to all of you who don't have one near you) We're avid rabbit hunters so I bought them for that & mild weather deer hunting. The 400 gram thinsulate is perfect for both. Because I found them in the Bargain Barn, I believe I paid only about $90.00 for them; not bad for an unworn boot of this quality.
Things I like about the Irish Setter 858 Hunting Boots: I can't say enough about this boot...more comfortable than any of my running shoes..awesome grip (Bulls-eye Air Bob sole) makes you feel like a goat climbing steep banks, etc...and unbelievably durable. I've been hunting pretty hard with these for almost 4 years in some nasty conditions and they're, sadly enough, starting to show some wear.(no leaks, though) I try to take care of my stuff so I'm hoping to get 2 more seasons out of them. Even when their time comes, I'll probably just keep 'em around for the memories!
What I don't like about the Irish Setter 858: The only thing I don't like is the fact that this model is no longer available. In any event, these feet won't see another boot but an Irish Setter.
Hunting Boots 858 quality: Best made boot on earth!! A "nappy" leather w/ cordura upper and that Bulls-eye Air Bob sole...400 gr. Thinsulate & Goretex.
858 summary: I'd recommend Irish Setter boots to everyone. Beside this pair I have a pair of #898s (1200 gr) that I know I'll have forever because of their limited use and durability. My only hope is that they continue to put out the quality I'm used to. Buy any Irish Setter...you can't go wrong!!
