Purchase: Fishing Reels I have used smaller Penn reels in the past but wanted a catch anything and don't worry about it attitude. I picked up this reel at Academy for 149.95 and was money well spent.
Things I like about the Penn 950 SSM Fishing Reels: This reel is big and mean. I spooled up 300 yards of Power Pro 80lb test line and headed out to my favorite offshore fishing ground. Though it only has 5 BB it is extremely smooth and casts well when I decide to hit the shallows. The ht100 drag works like a dream...hooked up a 46 inch ling and it took off a hundred yards quick..but the reel stayed true to it's reputation..quick retrieve and smooth action.
What I don't like about the Penn 950 SSM: The reel is bulky but come on...300 yard capacity?
Fishing Reels 950 SSM quality: Solid. Construction is top notch. The action is smooth and the retrieve is quick. The sealed drag is a dream...I just rinse it off with the hose after a long weekend of salt water fishing.
950 SSM summary: To anyone who has ever wanted a do anything do everything reel without worries about what if the reel is too small to catch this and that... this one can do it all. The 950ssm is more than capable to catch them big King fish smokers as well as the other species. Buy it..spool it up..and catch em. Nothing beats the American made Penn. Nothing.
