Thompson Center Triumph Black Powder
Black Powder Manufacturer: Thompson Center
Thompson Center Model: Triumph
Review Category: Black Powder
Purchase: I bought my Triumph through Cabelas. Caught a sale price and even with shipping it was still cheaper than my local dealer. Plus I had Cabelas Points to burn, which helped reduce the cost even further. I bought the synthetic version with weathershield. $399
Things I like about the Thompson Center Triumph: Break open action allows easy access to breech plug for easy removal with fingertips which makes cleaning a breeze. No tools required. Weathershield metal finish stands up to the harshest elements. I hunted with it during a heavy ice storm and when I got home, I just wiped it down and put it away.
What I don't like about the Thompson Center Triumph: Ramrod tends to jolt loose after shot. A couple times after I shot it, I noticed the ramrod was sticking out a couple inches past the end of the barrel, jarred lose from the recoil. No biggie, but the only thing I've noticed that I don't like so far.
Triumph quality: Excellent, excellent, excellent. This is my first TC product and I am sold!
Triumph summary: Several friends own Omegas and Encores and bragged about the TC name. Most opinions steered me away from buying a blued muzzleloader so I bought the weathershield (stainless) model. With a scope, I feel comfortable out to 150 yards and that's only after firing about 10 rounds through it. I plan to work up a good load between now and next season and hope to increase my accuracy to 200+ yards. If you are in the market for a new smokepole, check out the new Triumph. I know there are 3 deer that wish that I hadn't bought one!
