Humminbird Matrix 65 Fish Finders

Fish Finders Manufacturer: Humminbird
Humminbird Model: Matrix 65
Review Category: Fish Finders

Purchase: Fish Finders I aquired my new Humminbird Matrix 65 through Humminbird.com. I am a previous owner of an older Humminbird fish finder from their 1994 product line, which I traded into them for their new Matrix 65 model. Not only was the value bestoed upon my old model by Humminbird overly generous, the Matrix 65 arrived at my house promptly along with all of its accessories at no extra cost. I would estimate that I only paid around $350 for the Matrix 65 plus my trade-in.

Things I like about the Humminbird Matrix 65 Fish Finders: The Matrix 65 Fish Finding System is the best all in one GPS / depth / fish finder around. It is extremely easy to use with drop down menus and has two different modes, normal and advanced. Advanced mode gives you paramount control over the unit, features only found in models by brands such as Furuno that cost over twice as much and are much harder to use. The second time I used my Matrix 65 proved its value. My fishin' buddy and I went out early one morning to catch some Cobia and Snapper at Sun Shine Skyway bridge in Tampa Bay, FL. The day started off slow, but by lunch the fish had really started to bite. By the time we had even thought of returning to my dock, a thick fog had set in and there was about 10 minutes of sunlight left and not to mention the wind had picked up producing seas of at least three feet, which in my 20 foot cuddy-cabin, can be formidable even on a clear night. My Matrix 65 saved our catch, dinner, and maybe even us. It always had a reading on the bottom keeping the boat on course and firmly planted in the channel. The GPS / bottom view split-screen mode allowed me to navigate through zero visability conditions, while dodging the Carnival Cruiseliners that were coming and going. It even got us home in enough time to flush the motor and fillet our catch.

What I don't like about the Humminbird Matrix 65: I have nothing bad to say about this unit, although I do have one suggestion. Humminbird should incorporation a VHF and Single Side Band Marine Radio and it will have the ultimate boating accessory!

Fish Finders Matrix 65 quality: The construction of the unit is excellent. The housing and mounting stand are the same that came with my '94 model and is nearly indestructible, even kid-proof.

Matrix 65 summary: The quality, features, and price of this unit makes it a must have for anyone who wants to spend more money on gas, tackle, and bait then on a less useful, more expensive unit. And if color display is what you crave, I read that Humminbird has a Matrix 97 with a TFT color display and offers more maps and features than the Matrix 65. Humminbird customer service is also a pleasure to deal with, and in as far as warrantee goes, you will not find a better one out there on the market.
