Shimano Calcutta 400TE Fishing Reels
Fishing Reels Manufacturer: Shimano
Shimano Model: Calcutta 400TE
Review Category: Fishing Reels
Purchase: Fishing Reels This reel was purchased from Cabela's for $350. A bit pricey for a reel but well worth it!
Things I like about the Shimano Calcutta 400TE Fishing Reels: This is a beautiful looking reel. It is gold anodized finish which is resistant to salt water. The spool is wide, allowing 260 yards of 14 lb test mono. When you step it up to the TE version compared to the standard Calcutta, you are not only getting a much smoother reel, but, everything is beefed up! For instance, you do not find very little plastic on the reel compared the standard Calcutta. On the TE version, most plastic is replaced by steel. Another unique feature is easy access to the breaking system. This is the Cadillac of all bait casting reels. I use it mostly for Muskie fishing, and have never had a problem with it. No back lashes, and it is so, so smooth. Fishing is much more enjoyable when you have excellent gear. You spend less time fiddling with it, and more time hauling in fish!
What I don't like about the Shimano Calcutta 400TE: The only thing I dislike about the reel is the price. The standard Calcutta is great reel and quite a bit cheaper, but for the fisherman who likes to have the best, there is no other option but the TE.
Fishing Reels Calcutta 400TE quality: The reel was designed with high efficiency gearing which limits the strain and wear on the internal organs of the reel. This ultimately creates a smooth cranking reel. Long effortless casts are achieved by a super 5 bearing system. Great hook sets are achieved by a anti reverse one way roller bearing. The ability to have a good hook set equals more fish in the boat. A variable brake system allows for precise adjustments to the spool speed to avoid irritating backlashes, which can limit the fish in the boat. And last but not least, the reel is made of a one piece aluminum frame, which offers superior strength when battling the toughest of fish!
Calcutta 400TE summary: The bottom line...This is the best reel on the market! The price is high, but worth is for the person who spends a lot of time fishing. The reel is by no means essential to have a good time fishing, the standard Calcutta is equally as fun, and quite a bit cheaper. If you don't intend on buying one, make sure you never try a Calcutta TE, because the next time you are at a fishing store, you will buy one!
