Remington Genesis 50 cal Black Powder
Black Powder Manufacturer: Remington
Remington Model: Genesis 50 cal
Review Category: Black Powder
Purchase: Black Powder Gobles Gun and Tackle, London, Ont. $425
Things I like about the Remington Genesis 50 cal Black Powder: Clean lines. Feel and fit excellent. Modern looking gun. Like the location of the safety. able to keep it cocked ready to shoot. It has the same safety as other rifles I own so I don't get confused when that big buck reveals himself.
What I don't like about the Remington Genesis 50 cal: New to black powder with time constraints don't like the extra time to clean but that goes with any muzzle loader. When the stress in the field takes over after your first shot the location of the primer is a little difficult to remove if you have a scope mounted. Ran into this problem on a cold December day after dropping a 11 point buck at 50 yards. Don't really know if it was the excitement of the shot but the prime seemed to stick in place.
Black Powder Genesis 50 cal quality: Well packaged unit. Quality of the fit and finish is second to none. Crisp clean lines and a well balance feel. Found the sights a little cheap looking but didn't really care as I was mounting a scope.
Genesis 50 cal summary: Never owned a black powder rifle before. Went looking for a modern looking black powder rifle. Found the Remington met my needs and I love the look. Easy to use. User manual easy to follow for someone who has never shot a muzzle loader before. Sighted in with easy. Easy to clean. Found the trigger pull consistant.
