Thompson Center 50 Caliber BP Muzzle loader Black Powder
Black Powder Manufacturer: Thompson Center
Thompson Center Model: 50 Caliber BP Muzzle loader
Review Category: Black Powder
Purchase: Black Powder I bought this muzzle loader about 4 years ago at a Bass Pro Shop for about $1,000 (included a scope, ammo and a few accessories). This was my first Black Powder rifle.
Things I like about the Thompson Center 50 Caliber BP Muzzle loader Black Powder: Accuracy, Accuracy, Acuracy! My Omega is the laminated thumb hole stock version. I have been extremly pleased with this rifle for the accuracy I get at the range. I tried several dfferent types of loads and have finally settled on a selection that consistently allows me groups of 3 within 1.5" @100 yds. Other BP shooters are amazed. This gun shoots extremely well (and actually cuts holes of prior shots).
What I don't like about the Thompson Center 50 Caliber BP Muzzle loader: Cleaning - sometines the plug is difficult to remove - even though I try to keep it well lubricated and clean. Weight - Relatively heavy compared to my other long rifles. Cannot use the offset hammer extenders on the Omega.
Black Powder 50 Caliber BP Muzzle loader quality: High quality. SS barrel w/the grey laminated thumbhole stock.
50 Caliber BP Muzzle loader summary: Although I really am quite impressed with this gun, I believe the newer models have addressed some of my issues with the Omega. I really am quite satisfied with the accuracy of the gun. This is also the finest gun I own for feel and balance when shouldered. Betewwn the thumbhole grip in the stock and the general feel of the gun - it just feels great. If you have never shouldered an Omega, you need to experience it for yourself. Go to a dealer and "test drive" one for yourself.
