Purchase: Fishing Boats - Fishing Motors I reveived this kayak for Christmas from my wife. She bought it from Rio Grande Outfitters in McAllen, Texas.I'm not sure but I think it cost around 700.00 bucks.I am a wade fisherman, I was looking to expand my fishing range on the flats and bay.Without have to buy a outboard powered flats boat.
Things I like about the Wilderness Systems Tarpon 140 Sit On Top Kayak w/rudder Fishing Boats - Fishing Motors: This kayak is a flats & shallow water fishers dream. It will float in less than 6 inches of water . It would also work well on rivers, ponds, lakes and creeks. This kayak is made of roto molded poly plastic and is pretty tough.This one is in mango color for safty. They come in many different colors to suite individual tastes and needs. It is just long enough, at 14 feet, to track well and be pretty fast. And wide and short enough to be very stable and easily maneuvered. I am 6'2" and weigh in at around 225. This kayak seems to be at home with someone my size. It has a weight capasity of 375lbs. This leave plenty of room for tackle. It has more that adaquate storage with one large oval and two smaller round snap type waterproof lid, storage openings. It has one of the biggest tank wells, in the back , that I have seen on a kayak. The tank well accepts the standard milk creates, for tackle storage, in 13x13 and 13x17 inch sizes.It has room to put a small cooler are other equipment behind that. It also has a radius molded in the tank well to accept a 5 gallon bait bucket. It has adjustable bungi straps over the tank well to keep gear secure.It has bungi cords on the front deck to hold down gear in the front. It comes with two, one on each side, paddle cleats to keep your paddle secure when not in use. The kayak also has a small bungi strap in the floor of the cockpit to keep items such as small tackle boxes secure yet within easy access. It has a molded in bottle holder and two recessed areas for mounting a GPS, two way radio or other equipment. The recessed area also works well for mounting a rod holder for easy access. The floor board of this model is below the center line of the kayak and is molded flat to aid in standing up in the boat. Although I have yet to try doing so. At 62 pound the yak is fairly easy to carry , load and unload.
What I don't like about the Wilderness Systems Tarpon 140 Sit On Top Kayak w/rudder: The only thing I can think of that I don't like about this kayak is that the lower floor board carries about 2 inches of water when I'm setting in it. This can be cured by installing some rubber plugs in the scupper holes. I think the boat should come with scupper plugs. But after all, Sit on Top kayaks are not supposed to be completely dry rides anyway.
Fishing Boats - Fishing Motors Tarpon 140 Sit On Top Kayak w/rudder quality: The Tarpon 140 seems to be very well built. Its plastic is plenty thick and resists punctures and repairable.It has plent of storage and tie down hardware standard. It can be easily modified and accessorised with rod holders, anchor kits, electronics and such to fit an individuals needs.
Tarpon 140 Sit On Top Kayak w/rudder summary: Any one interested in a fairly cheap fishing machine for mild to moderate water should check this kayak out. There is no one kayak that fits everyones needs. But this one will get mighty close. If not Wilderness Systems makes many other models and styles to choose from. This kayak is less than 1 year old. To get a true evaluation of its usfullness and quality I would have to write another review in about 10 years. Thats how to realy judge outdoor equipment.
