Purchase: Fishing Reels Purchased this reel at a local outfitters for a reasonable price of $100 inc tax(CDN). Bought a Shimano Quickfire spinning about 15 years ago and had fallen in love with it ever since. Decided to upgrade to the newer unit this year with double the bearings and fluid drive (Older unit I'm still using! Works like a charm!)
Things I like about the Shimano Spirex 2000 RD Fishing Reels: If you are familiar in using the quickfire as I am, you won't go back to manual bailing - it's that convienent, especially if you'd like to pitch your line in tight quarters. One-handed casting is why I wanted to purchase another one of these. You WILL get used to this way of casting.
What I don't like about the Shimano Spirex 2000 RD: Only that it doesn't have the instantaneous braking when get a bite (bail reverses to the point of quickfire release), but this is easily overcome with inclusion of the double handle (keep your hand on it!) and a bit of getting used to.
Fishing Reels Spirex 2000 RD quality: Shimano makes one heck of a fine reel - very well built (full metal casing) , smooth with the fluid drive, and easily maintained. As metioned I've owned an older model for 15 years now and I cannot see myself leaving the brand..its been that reliable (and I'm a bush fisherman so lots of nick and dings to the the reel while portaging!) Would not hesitate to buy another shimano product.
Spirex 2000 RD summary: From what I hear (heresay), they may be thinking of phasing out these quickfire reels. Do yourself a favor and try one out before purchasing anything else. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have over these years.
