Purchase: Hunting Boots Purchased online, bestgear.com (free shipping) I paid $245. I bought this boot, because I wanted a quality Outdoor boot, that was waterproof, light weight, and designed to last. The Explorer is a great, 3 season hunting/hiking boot.
Things I like about the Danner Boots Explorer Hunting Boots: I love the real leather, that you can polish and take care of. The boots fit great, and break in very quickly. After a couple weeks, I can walk for several hours and they do not hurt my feet at all. We have had cold temps here this winter, and these boots have kept my feet dry and warm, though they have no insulation only Gortex and Cambrelle Linings. I wear a mid weight wool wigwam sock and my feet stay warm and dry. The Vibram Kletterlift soles are the top of the line and provide great traction in a wide variety of terrain. I also like the fact these soles are stitched rather than glued to the boot. These can be resoled over and over providing years of use. Lastly, most boots now a days are made in China. These Danner's are made in the USA and proudly display that logo on the side of the boot.
What I don't like about the Danner Boots Explorer: I don't like the fact that it's hard to find these boots. Several stores were on back-order and I wasn't able to try them on before purchase (online order) I would also like to see more padding near the top of the boot. I have skinny ankles and even with the laces cinched down all the way, there is still room for my leg to move around. More padding would give better support.
Hunting Boots Explorer quality: Full Grain Leather Construction, top quality materials provide the best boot for the money. It's hard to find a shoe/boot that you can still polish and maintain like the old days. These boots are it. Stitch down construction, these boots can be resoled, rebuilt and made to last much longer than the glued together stuff you find from other makers.
Explorer summary: I have known and read about Danner boots for years. I always thought they were too expensive. I am now a firm believer that you get what you pay for, Danner Boots are the cats meow. I will recommend to my friends and hunting partners to give Danner's a try
