Buck Pathfinder Fixed Blade Knife Hunting Knives
Hunting Knives Manufacturer: Buck
Buck Model: Pathfinder Fixed Blade Knife
Review Category: Hunting Knives
Purchase: Hunting Knives When I began hunting I needed something to clean animals with. My dad gave me this knife which I now carry whenever I go hunting. The leather sheath has a few scratches from me going through the brush, but the knife itself is in great condition. The MSRP on the Buck website is $61.
Things I like about the Buck Pathfinder Fixed Blade Knife Hunting Knives: This is a great knife for cleaning game! Buck makes all their knives out of stainless steel, which is good news for those of us who might decide to sit out a rainstorm. According to Buck Knives, the blade is made out of high carbon 420 HC steel (adding carbon during heat treating hardens the steel). What this has meant for me in practical terms is that the knife gets razor-sharp and holds an edge very well. It will help you to clean an animal when your hands are cold or when the light's fading, as well as all the times in between. The handle is easy to grip comfortably and a small (1/4") guard is built in. The high-quality leather sheath that is included attaches conveniently to a belt.
What I don't like about the Buck Pathfinder Fixed Blade Knife: There is nothing I don't like about the knife. With an overall length of 9.5" and a 5" blade, if you're cleaning very small game (say squirrel) a smaller knife might be more convenient. If you forget that you have the knife on and wear it into McDonald's people tend to give you funny looks, though for some reason they quickly look away.
Hunting Knives Pathfinder Fixed Blade Knife quality: Top notch quality all around, and it's guaranteed!
Pathfinder Fixed Blade Knife summary: This is what a piece of gear is supposed to be. This knife can be passed from generation to generation in the knowledge that it's going to provide the same great use it always has. A very useful knife, especially for cleaning big game. It's also just kind of fun to use a "real" knife like this. Highly recommended!
