DeerCam DC-200 Trail Cameras (a-f)

Trail Cameras (a-f) Manufacturer: DeerCam
DeerCam Model: DC-200
Review Category: Trail Cameras (a-f)

Purchase: Trail Cameras (a-f) I bought the Deercam DC-100 from Cabela's online in February of 2003. I paid $279.99 ,plus a little more for the Big Brown truck to deliver it to me in Maine. I bought it because the fine folks at DeerCam advertise nice colorful full page ads in most every issue of Bowhunter magazine. These nice people claim to be the #1 selling, and the best scouting camera on the market.

Things I like about the DeerCam DC-200 Trail Cameras (a-f): The unit looks really great strapped to a tree. I am so impressed with the way it blends into the surroundings. Sometimes I take a picture of it strapped to a tree so I can remember where I left it in the woods. As they indicate, it is easy to use right out of the box. It is a little confusing trying to figure out what it really does and what the nice people claim it does. I like that.

What I don't like about the DeerCam DC-200: After about 3 rolls of film the unit had numerous failures that required me to return it to Nowhere, WI for repairs. Silly me...I took the time to take advantage of an upgrade to the DC-200 for another $85.00 Believe it or not after 3 rolls of film the DC-200 failed and need be returned. Over 5 weeks later after a few calls and complaints, the Big Brown Truck returned my DeerCam. The nice folks out there should learn to write and apologize for such problems. Maybe they will yet though, because the third roll of film is almost finished. The Xpander doesn't do what they say it will do either. By now I have over $400.00 invested in the unit. Quite a bit more than a good steak, and at least if the steak house gets it wrong...they apologize and make it right.

Trail Cameras (a-f) DC-200 quality: I will say the quality and construction is very good. Being weatherproof is the best asset. In Maine the weather throws some real blows, rain, snow, and cold for example. I have researched alot of other cameras and I do think this is one of the best units when it works it is great fun. I scout all the time and look forward to checking the camera on my day off. The picture quality is pretty good much of the time. The sensor has some difficulty during the warmer months as it differenciates animal temps and air temps.

DC-200 summary: I know other people that have had to return their cameras to DeerCam. Once bugs are worked out and fixed the units work good. I personally always have my doubts and often wonder on my 1 mile hike into the swamps. Is the unit working properly? Is it going to fail? I should be thinking that I bought a higher priced product to get the best #1 selling unit money could buy. Did I get another picture of that tall tined buck?
