Purchase: Calls Lures Scents I have wanted an owl call for a while both to use as a turkey locater as well as to talk with the local owls. Recently I convinced myself that I should stop at Wal-Mart for something and somehow ended up in their outdoors section again. After finding the clearance section relatively unchanged I decided to look at the turkey gear. I spotted three different owl calls, and decided to go with Primos's Hoot Flute. It costs $5.
Things I like about the Primos Hoot Flute Owl Call Calls Lures Scents: I took the call out to my car and, because I don't care if some Wal-Mart shoppers think I'm a nut, immediately started blowing on it. It took me another 20 seconds to read the directions, and a minute after that I had the call mastered. It's so easy I'm sure a child could quickly learn it. It really sounded like the owls I hear out here! I chose the Hoot Flute because it can be used to imitate both Barred Owls and Great Horned Owls. By following the brief instructions, I could pretty much immediately imitate either. Coincidentally this is also the cheapest owl call I have seen.
What I don't like about the Primos Hoot Flute Owl Call: Nothing so far!
Calls Lures Scents Hoot Flute Owl Call quality: It's basically a black plastic tube about 2" in diameter, and is probably as sturdy as most calls. Won't be affected by the weather.
Hoot Flute Owl Call summary: Unlike some of the other owl calls I saw, this one doesn't have any crazy protrusions coming out of it ... a plus when you want to move around. There's a place to tie on a lanyard if you want, and the pitch is variable based on which of the 3 smaller holes you cover. Honestly I have not yet taken it out to locate turkeys, but I can say that you can accurately reproduce an owl call with ease. I don't think you can beat an good call for 5 bucks!
