Shimano Clarus 6'6" Medium 2 piece / CSS-66M-2 Fishing Rods
Fishing Rods Manufacturer: Shimano
Shimano Model: Clarus 6'6" Medium 2 piece / CSS-66M-2
Review Category: Fishing Rods
Purchase: Fishing Rods I purchased this rod for $59.99 at Gander Mountain. I originally planned on buying the Shimano Compre, but the store did not have any two piece rods in stock. I bought the rod because I have enjoyed Shimano products in the past and needed a new rod.
Things I like about the Shimano Clarus 6'6" Medium 2 piece / CSS-66M-2 Fishing Rods: I fish primarily Michigan rivers. The Clarus is a fairly decent river rod and for the price, I am very pleased. The rod is light weight but still holds up well. Rocks and brush start to take form as the rods good sensitivity helps build a mental picture of the river bottom. The best aspect of this rod has to be the versatility. I go from catching smallmouth bass and trout to handling the occasional sucker that finds my bait with out any problem or lack of performance.
What I don't like about the Shimano Clarus 6'6" Medium 2 piece / CSS-66M-2: The over all feel of the rod could be a bit more sturdy and solid, not awful though, for a medium action rod. The cork used to make the handle seemed to wear out fairly quickly. I found after fishing it for a couple months, bits of the cork started to chunk out. The fuji reel seat would occasionally loosen and I had to retighten it a couple times during a good day of fishing.
Fishing Rods Clarus 6'6" Medium 2 piece / CSS-66M-2 quality: As usual, Shimano construction is excellent. The minor detail of small pieces of the cork coming out didn't bother me very much. I did notice that on some of the guides there seemed to be excess resin and on some there seemed to be a lack of resin, but for a mass produced rod, it wasn't anything out of the ordinary. Even after many fishing stops and frequent assembly, the rod showed very little wear where the two pieces connected.
Clarus 6'6" Medium 2 piece / CSS-66M-2 summary: Over all, I am very pleased with the rod. After spending sixty dollars, I got more than what I expected. If specialized fishing isn't your thing, or you just like to grab your tackle and head to the nearest water, this rod will supply you with enough power to bring in those big walleye and enough finesse to land the most finicky trout.
