Purchase: Rifle Scopes Purchased in store at Bass Pro Outdoor World in Grapevine, TX. Regular price was 489.99 and I paid only 391.99 with the coupon!
Things I like about the Leupold VX III 4.5-14x40 Duplex Rifle Scopes: The VX III is almost identical cosmetically to the Vari X III series it rEplaced. There are some significant changes, however. The coin slot windage and elevation adjustment knobs have been replaced with finger adjustble ones. Suposedly the light transmission level has been increased to "up to" 98% thanks to the new "Index Matched Lens System", though I can hardly imagine most shooters being able to tell a noticible improvement over the Vari X III's already incredible light transmission. The best part of this scope (just like all Leupold scopes) is it's unconditional lifetime warranty. You can pass this dude down to your grandson and Leupold will still fix it if it breaks. Also, still made in the gool ol' USA.
What I don't like about the Leupold VX III 4.5-14x40 Duplex: There is no longer the option for an adjustable objective at this magnification leval. Not a big deal to me, but others may want to note this.
Rifle Scopes VX III 4.5-14x40 Duplex quality: Could it get any better? I guess if you wanted to pay another $300-500 extra for an Leupold LPS, Zeiss, or Sworovski. Mine is matte black, but is also available in gloss and silver. Lenses are completely multicoated inside and out. Tube is 1 inch diameter and made from 1 single piece of 6061-T6 aircraft quality aluminum alloy. You can't get much tougher than that.
VX III 4.5-14x40 Duplex summary: This is hands down the best quality scope for your money. If you're thinking about dropping the cash for a top of the line Burris or Nikon why not cough up an extra $100 for the best? Leupold's warranty blows all the others out of the water, and their products are top notch. All that and made in the USA.
