St. Croix St. Croix Avid AS60MF Spinning Rod Fishing Rods

Fishing Rods Manufacturer: St. Croix
St. Croix Model: St. Croix Avid AS60MF Spinning Rod
Review Category: Fishing Rods

Purchase: I was looking for a high end fishing rod (1 piece, around 6ft long, medium action) that could handle just about anything from panfish to largemouth bass and not sure what brand to buy. There are lots of great rods on the market today and I looked at everyone to make sure it would fit my needs. It was a close race and I narrowed it down to a few manufacturers; Bass Pro Shops (Johnny Morris Signature $149), G.Loomis (IMX $215, GL2 $130 and bronzeback $200), Quantum Tour Edition PT ($150) and St. Croix (Avid AS60MF $140). I had some of the greatest rods ever made to choose from and deciding on one would be very difficult. I spent hours of research online and at Bass Pro Shops (Baltimore) looking at the pros and cons of each rod. I talked to several anglers who owned the above rods and got a lot of great feedback for my decision making. I found that everyone who had one of the brands liked the rod but no one seemed to really love it except for one brand; St. Croix. I spoke to 5 guys who owned these rods and all of them said that they would never buy anything else. I never got this response from any of the others who owned another brand. I got several "I like it alot" and "It's a good rod" but no one seemed to really love the rods. The guys who owned a St. Croix seemed so excited and electric when talking about their rods. I could see the passion in their eyes and hear it in their voices when talking about the rod or the manufacturer. Maybe it was just a coincident but I felt that St. Croix was the rod for me. I plucked down $140 at Bass Pro Shops and headed right to my favorite fishing spot to try this "magic stick" for myself.

Things I like about the St. Croix St. Croix Avid AS60MF Spinning Rod: In one word...EVERYTHING! I don't even know were to start on this one. You can see the passion and committment to excellence that St. Croix puts into its rod as soon as you pick it up. It is very clear right away that they use only the highest quality of materials and do not cut corners. The Avid series rods are made of a premium high modulus SC3 graphite which extremely strong yet super sensitive. I knew from the first cast that this was going to be a beautiful friendship. I was just amazed at the rods sensitivity. I could actually feel the difference when the lure ran into things underwater. I could totally tell whether it was a rock, log, weeds, or a fish hit. This amazingly light rod tips the scale at 3.5 ounces and is a complete joy to hold for hours of fishing without feeling fatigue. The select grade cork handles are ergonomically shaped and super smooth to the touch. The Avid rods also come equiped with Fuji Alconite guides which offer superior strenth, enhance sensativity and stop line twisting for longer and more accurate casting. All of this and to mention they are about 35% lighter than conventional rod guides. Casting is such a dream with longer distances and more accuracy. Even when casting smaller lures (1/8 oz.), the rod performed with perfection on every cast. I constantly found (and still do to this day) myself in awe at the distance I could now throw a small lightweight lure. Best of all, the rod comes with a lifetime warranty and back by unmatched customer service from St. Croix.

What I don't like about the St. Croix St. Croix Avid AS60MF Spinning Rod: My only dislike is the fact that this rod has spoiled me. I am completely addicted to this rod. It is so incredible that I never want to use another rod. The guys in Bass Pro were right, "Once you buy a St.Croix, you will never buy anything else". Now I have to get St. Croix Avids for my other reels for me to use them. It truely is a sickness!!!

St. Croix Avid AS60MF Spinning Rod quality: At St. Croix, satisfaction is guaranteed. You will not find another company that is more dedicated to fishermen. They will do everything possible to make sure that you are completely satisfied with their products. These rods are handcrafted in the United States by fishermen for fishermen.

St. Croix Avid AS60MF Spinning Rod summary: Don't let the $140 price tag scare you aware from purchasing this rod. It is practically a steal at this price. This rod has outstanding performance capability and extremely durable. It performs and feels like a rod that should cost twice the price. If you are looking for the finest fishing rods on the market, look into a St. Croix Avid series rod. It does not get any better than this!!!
