Remington 700 RS Other

Other Manufacturer: Remington
Remington Model: 700 RS
Review Category: Other

Purchase: I bought this rifle several years ago when I was a little younger, and dumber for that matter. The Lawyer I bought it off said it was a 700 BDL with the Rhinite stock. I should have known something was up when he had a dummy shell in the chamber which I thought was unusual, however I took him at his word the gun fired well.

Things I like about the Remington 700 RS: Great action on the gun. It also had a great feel to me which is half the battle when hunting.

What I don't like about the Remington 700 RS: I've had four mis-fires coming at varied weather conditions. Three were while hunting the fourth was shooting at the range. After the first the Gunsmith I took it to said someone had probably used wd-40 on the guns action and that gummed the firing pin up just enough to make contact with the primer but not enough to make the gun go off. I took the Gunsmith's advice and soaked the bolt, degreased everything and started over. The next year on a real nice buck(the first was a small buck) it failed to go off. I went ballistic excuse the pun. I then took it to another Gunsmith who said the first was nuts and didn't know anything. He replaced a spring in the bolt and promised I'd never have trouble again. You guessed it, she misfired and off I went again although this time back to the same guy. He replaced the pin and thought maybe there was a flaw in there. Three weeks ago I was at the range on a very hot day and click. That's it for me, I can't believe it took me this long to give up on the gun, it's gone this time.

700 RS quality: Great when it works. The Rhinite stock is pretty nicked up oh an it turns out that Remington didn't make a 700 bdl in the Rhinite stock, the gun is a 700 RS, never trust a Lawyer or at least not one who wears a toupee.

700 RS summary: When the gun goes off it shoots very well. I work 50-60 hours a week and when I am hunting can't be worried about if the gun will go off this time or not. Hunting is my time to relax not worry about my gear. I'm looking for something in a non-Remington line this time for hunting and the occasional range play.
