Shimano Torium 30 Fishing Reels
Fishing Reels Manufacturer: Shimano
Shimano Model: Torium 30
Review Category: Fishing Reels
Purchase: Fishing Reels Bought this when it first came out for $180 at Roy's bait&tackle in Corpus Christi, TX. I was going to buy a Trinidad, but this had almost everything I wanted, at less than Half the price of a Trinidad
Things I like about the Shimano Torium 30 Fishing Reels: Great 30-40lb reel. Excellent Drag, very fast line pickup with almost unbelievable power, adjustable handle, Infinite anti-reverse. It even has a line clip on under the right side for storage. Easy to take completely apart for maintenance.
What I don't like about the Shimano Torium 30: The stock handle knob. This is more of a personal preference thing. I relaced the stock handle with one from a Trinidad ($35 from Shimano)
Fishing Reels Torium 30 quality: Typical Shimano Quality, which is to say very good.
Torium 30 summary: If casting lighter baits/lures is your thing, go with a Trinidad or Accurate Boss Magnum. Great reel for using Snapper jigs around reefs/wrecks, Or working Iron for Kings, Amberjacks, Tuna, and Wahoo. With the High speed retrieve I don't even set the hook with the rod anymore. I simply crank furiously till I feel weight and hold on.
