Ambassadeur TC4000 Fishing Reels

Fishing Reels Manufacturer: Ambassadeur
Ambassadeur Model: TC4000
Review Category: Fishing Reels

Purchase: Fishing Reels I acquired this product last year,(2003), at my local Academy store for $49.00. I was raised using the venerable Ambassadeur 5000 reel and it proved to be every bit as competent a reel that it was proported to be. Relying on that experience with the Ambassadeur line of level wind reels, I thought to go ahead and try the smaller 4000 series.

Things I like about the Ambassadeur TC4000 Fishing Reels: The reel is actually quite a bit smaller than the 5000 therefore it is lighter and easier to handle for the long hours that I put in drifting the salt flats of the South Texas coastal waters in search of speckled trout and redfish. After I first started using the reel on my seven foot popping rod, throwing mostly 1/2 ounce spoons or soft plastic jighead rigs, I found that I couldn't put it down. It didn't take too long before my first fish was on,an 8lb. red nailed a gold spoon that I was working over a grass bed and the test was on. I had spooled about 100 yards of 12lb Big Game line onto the reel and had the drag set moderately. The fish busted off about 25 yards of line and I tightened up on him a bit. The little reel was smooth as glass and after about 7 or 8 minutes the fish was in the boat. I was hooked and soon returned to Academy to purchase the last two units that they had. The reels have always performed flawlessly, have never let me down and brought in every fish ever hooked onto one.

What I don't like about the Ambassadeur TC4000: There is only one thing not to like about the TC4000. They don't sell them any more.

Fishing Reels TC4000 quality: The unit is all metal cased and has three ball bearings with brass gears. The drag system is a star drag with fiber disc clutching. I rate the quality to be number one in its price class and as good or better than some more expensive reels that I have previously owned and used.

TC4000 summary: The bottom line is that the Ambassadeur reel is my favorite reel to use for the type fishing that I do the most and hereby make a plea to the Ambassadeur company to please put more of these workhorses on the market.
