Purchase: Tree Stands Bought it for bowhunting. Paid 249.99 for it. A lot of money, but it is a great stand.
Things I like about the API Grand Slam Shooting Star Tree Stands: After I removed the climbing seat, (see issue below) this is the best stand I have ever owned and I have had at least 8 different types of climbers and ladder stands. It is the most quiet, solid stand on any type of tree. Smooth bark trees are no problem with this stand as the teeth really grip for a very safe climb and a very solid and safe feeling at the top. I am buying another one.
What I don't like about the API Grand Slam Shooting Star: The climbing seat is held on by two spring clips and they can get twisted. If you don't check them before you climb and make sure they are straight, when you put weight on the seat, it can come unclipped!!..Not a good thing when it happens unexpectedly! You can fall with this setup !!!! I have since taken my climbing seat off and just use my arms. I intend to put it back on with a non-detachable clip so I don't have to worry about them coming unclipped if twisted.
Tree Stands Grand Slam Shooting Star quality: Quality constructed and a great design with the exception of the design flaw on the climbing seat. Foot holds could be better, but have not had a stand that I did not have to improve on here.
Grand Slam Shooting Star summary: I am buying another one. They have fixed the safety issue on the later model design.
