Mathews Switchback Bows
Bows Manufacturer: Mathews
Mathews Model: Switchback
Review Category: Bows
Purchase: I bought my SB at Eagle's Wings Archery in Knoxville, TN. John and Teresa own the place and I will never forget them. I had never shot a bow when I walked in. I am 25 years old. They had me shooting all sorts of bows. Lots of brands but nothing really "took" me. And I didn't really know what to feel for when shooting. It was my first time! I told him my price range was 400-500 dollars. Well John said, "well let's try the SB... it is over your limit but you can try it. You can feel what one of the hottest and newest bows on the market feels like." Long story short, I walked out of the store having them making my SB. The entire rig was approx $1,200 in October 2005. I bought the bow, John and Teresa gave me 2 lessons after they closed down. I was shooting 2 inch groups at 25 yards within 30 minutes.... and I am not joking. Now I can put 3 of 4 arrows (with broad heads) in a 6 inch pie plate at 50 yards.... and the stray one is pretty close to the plate :).
Things I like about the Mathews Switchback: It is tight. That is the best word I think for the bow. Silky smooth draw the entire way back. Quiet as a church mouse dauring draw, at full draw, and when released. As far as speed goes... I'd say it is fast - but I am sure other bows are just as fast as well. It's 33 inches axel to axel... which is really nice. The brace height is good too. & inches if I remember correctly, so it is very forgiving. Right out of the box it is quiet. My buddies bow had all "sound dampning" stuff on his bow... and I had nothing except for the MK-1 Mod 0 SB... and mine was qay quieter.
What I don't like about the Mathews Switchback: Someone stole it. :) I guess someone knew a good thing when they saw it and ganked it from me in the mail. But I had it insured so I am buying a new one in September of 2006. I might go with the SW XT... however, I am pretty sure I will just get another SB. It is all the bow I will ever need... I am loyal to it because it is simply "a total bow."
Switchback quality: I think I already have. "T-I-G-H-T." "Seamless." "Solid." "Perfection." Some other adjectives I would use for it's construction.
Switchback summary: Like I said I am new into the bow world. I just got in it in 2005 in October. I am sure there are plenty of bows just as good as Mathews and the SB model... I would say that you probably get just as much bow with a Hoyt, or a Parker, Whisper Creek, PSE, etc. Whatever floats your boat. I think they make great products too. But for me, I am a Mathews man... and more directly, a Switchback man. If you try it, be prepared to buy it. Because once you shoot it... your done.
