Purchase: Bows I purchased this bow after testing it at the acrchery shop. It was quiet and fast, plus it has a generous brace height for a fast bow. I paid $779 for it at a proshop. This bow replaced my Mathews LX. I gained about one inch in brace height by switching to the Trykon XL. A longer brace height makes the Trykon XL inherently more accurate than the Mathews LX.
Things I like about the Hoyt Trykon XL Bows: In short this is fast and quiet hunting bow with a forgiving brace height to forgive less than perfect form that often occurs during hunting situations. Honestly, the arrow hitting the target makes more noise than the bow coming down. And that is with a 420 grain arrow!
What I don't like about the Hoyt Trykon XL: It took me some twisting of the cables to get arrows to paper tune. The good thing was that when I did twist the cables it made a noticable improvement in the paper tear. Ultimately I was able to get a near perfect paper tear.
Bows Trykon XL quality: Like all Hoyt's the Trykon XL is of top quality. The fuse custom string that comes with all Trykon's is okay, even better than most factory strings. But I replaced the string with a Winners Choice string. The Zepher cam and a half on the Trykon is not adjustable for draw length so you must know your draw length prior to purchasing the bow.
Trykon XL summary: Hoyt engineers have apparently sqeazed every pound they could in the draw cycle of the Trykon. The draw cycle drops off abruptely near the design draw length, giving the bow a somewhat harsh feel. The payoff is a very fast bow - just don't creep once the letoff has kicked in... The bow weighs more than any other bow in it's class, but to me that is good thing. A heavy bow makes me more accurate, and ultimately in bow hunting accuracy is everything.
