Things I like about the Hunter's Safety Systems Reversible Safety Vest Hunting Outerwear: The vest is very easy to put on, as advertised. No more sorting out and untangling straps from traditional full body safety harnesses. Just put on the vest, click two straps across your chest and one seat belt styly around each leg and you are ready to go!
What I don't like about the Hunter's Safety Systems Reversible Safety Vest: 1. The vest is heavy. Would be too warm on a hot, early season day. They make a "Pro-Series" which is mesh, lighter weight and cooler, but it is quite a bit more expensive. 2. I wore this as a top layer on a hunt this weekend. The vest was noisy against the bark of the tree that I climbed. Next time, I will wear my fleece pullover on top of the vest instead of under it. Or, a trick that I learned years ago, tie a sweatshirt around the tree behind my back to lean against. This eliminates the rubbing against the bark. But I didn't think that the vest was really quiet anyway, so I'll probably opt to wear it under my fleece. Hopefully that will help. 3. I did not like the strap that is used to attach to the tree. The only way to disconnect the tether from the strap is to remove the strap from the tree. A carbinger like climbers use would be a nice accessory.
Hunting Outerwear Reversible Safety Vest quality: I bought the reversible model which is camo on one side (mossy oak break up) and blaze orange on the other. Perfect for bow and gun hunting in our state. The material of the vest is tough and durable and should hold up for years. This being said, it was/is a little noisy. If you are looking for super quiet, stick to a full body harness.
Reversible Safety Vest summary: Despite my dislikes, I am very happy with the vest. When I wear it I feel safe. The vest is a little expensive, but how much is it worth to save your life? The vest comes with a video to instruct you on how to wear it and use it properly. Well done, HSS!
