Nike Long-Sleeve DRI-FIT Shirt Hunting Outerwear
Hunting Outerwear Manufacturer: Nike
Nike Model: Long-Sleeve DRI-FIT Shirt
Review Category: Hunting Outerwear
Purchase: Hunting Outerwear I am a runner and got one of these shirts because others were using it and really liked it. DRI-FIT is a fancy name for a lightweight polyester material that wicks moisture away from your body. Vaporized sweat can go through it, but condensed sweat can't get back in. Its best use is as a base layer. In cold weather there is a NOTICEABLE difference of how wet/cold I get wearing a cotton undershirt versus a DRI-FIT shirt. I am reviewing this product because runners, hunters, and fishermen are all pretty likely to be out in inclement weather at some point, and none wants to be unnecessarily cold. Sells for $36 on niketown.com
Things I like about the Nike Long-Sleeve DRI-FIT Shirt Hunting Outerwear: Even if you are trying not to break a sweat, it sometimes happens. When you sweat, you get cold, and being cold can ruin an otherwise fun situation. Anything that can actually enhance my time outdoors is a good buy in my book, and this shirt qualifies by keeping me dry. I also lilke the fact that this shirt air dries very quickly, and in even less time in a dryer. If you accidentally overdress in layers, sometimes it's not convenient to take some of them off (in a stand for instance). This shirt allows you to stay drier in those situations as well.
What I don't like about the Nike Long-Sleeve DRI-FIT Shirt: These shirts go for $36 on niketown.com, but there are cheaper alternatives that should work fine for a hunting or fishing base layer. I have heard that Wal-Mart sells Starter brand polyester shirts that go for around 10 bucks. I wouldn't get too close to the campfire in a polyester shirt because it is a very thin layer of (flammable!) plastic. For you sensitive types (and I'm serious here) it takes less time for this shirt to get "stinky" than a conventional cotton undershirt. Wear it a few times wothout washing and your wife might put you too close to the campfire on purpose.
Hunting Outerwear Long-Sleeve DRI-FIT Shirt quality: Great, I have worn these a lot as a base layer and they're still going strong. It will take a long time to wear them out. Aside from the previously mentioned danger of melting an exposed shirt, it would be easier than most natural fabrics to tear on a thorn bush. If you are using it as a base layer, tearing obviously wouldn't be a problem.
Long-Sleeve DRI-FIT Shirt summary: I would rate this shirt a 5 because of its wonderful properties and usefulness. However, Nike continues to overcharge for its products, so I am givng it a 4. I would honestly look for a cheaper non-Nike shirt as a hunting base layer.
