Mathews Z-Max Bows

Bows Manufacturer: Mathews
Mathews Model: Z-Max
Review Category: Bows

Purchase: I bought this bow used for my son 2 years ago on eBay for the incredible price of $104.

Things I like about the Mathews Z-Max: Unless they came with the MiniMax cam option, someone who knew what they were doing built this bow. The IIR MiniMax cam brought the draw length down to 22" and the 40 lb. limbs adjusted fron 35 lbs. to just over 40lbs. For it's size, it shot consistent groups to 30 yards and more. My son was able to use it from age 10 to 12, from target shooting to his first pig, deer, and 3 turkeys! Our then hunting buddy also shoots the adult version and consistently takes top honors at our archery club.

What I don't like about the Mathews Z-Max: The riser was silver (aluminum?)with red and blue squiggles on it. I'm sure it must have been a target bow. Nothing a little camo duct tape couldn't fix.

Z-Max quality: I'm very satisfied with the high quality and construction of almost all of the Mathews Solocam lines. But for straight out knockdown and consistent patterns, I really like the MaxCam and subsequently, the MiniMax cam bows for target and especially hunting.

Z-Max summary: The Z-Max is no longer part of the Mathews product line. That's too bad. You can still find them in the classifieds, though. I just did. They do however, still produce bows with the MaxCam including the Conquest line which which has had more professional tournament victories than any other bow in history.
