Purchase: Bows I purchased this bow on ebay from a dealer. It was after the model had been discontinued and I paid about $190. I wanted to start shooting a bow again after a long layoff but didn't want to pay too much.
Things I like about the Bear Element Bows: The bow draws and shoots smooth. It is reasonably fast and pretty accurate.
What I don't like about the Bear Element: I found the bow to be fairly noisy despite numerous attempts to quiet it down. The noise was not from vibrating components. What I found out after I'd used it for a while is that the cam system eats cables for lunch. In the year that I owned it, I re-served the bottom end of the cable 6 times due to abrasion wear. I then purchased a new high quality custom bowstring for it in hopes that it would wear better. I was forced to re-serve it within 3 weeks. At that point, I put the bow up for sale and bought a used 2 year old Bowtech Guardian for which I paid about twice as much as the Element but only about $100 more than retail on the Element. I put a new custom bowstring from the same source on the Bowtech immediately. After more than a year, it shows absolutely no wear. The Bowtech also shoots smoother, faster, has no hand shock and is almost silent in comparison.
Bows Element quality: The construction and quality of the Element is ok and about what you would expect from a bow in this price range.
Element summary: The Element is a reasonable starter bow but cables will get very expensive and eventually the initial savings will be eaten up replacing cables or constantly re-serving them to try to extend their life. Buy a used binary cam system Bowtech in the first place. If the Bowtech has a Center-pivot riser, it will also be silent in comparison.
