Minn Kota Introduces DeckHand 40 and DeckHand 20 Electric Winches to Accessories Product LineMinn Kota - RACINE, Wis. – Several new features are offered on Minn Kota’s DeckHand 40 and DeckHand 20 electric winches being introduced for 2004. The new products give consumers the option of going with a 40-pound or 20-pound anchor-capacity winch. DeckHand 40 The new DeckHand 40 (DH-40) features a universal davit (anchor rest) that stows the anchor horizontally. This design eliminates anchor swing in the stowed position which reduces stress on the winch and extends the life of the product. The universal davit can be mounted to the base of the DeckHand or remote location on the deck of the boat. Minn Kota’s exclusive auto-deploy system on the DH-40 lowers the anchor into the water with the touch of a button, then automatically stops the winch when the anchor touches bottom. The special anti-drag system creates an “auto drift” feature by releasing the rope on the anchor when tension is applied. Drifting can be prevented by simply pushing the button that locks the winch. The new gear system on the DH-40 includes larger diameter gears with increased number of teeth for improved strength and life of the unit. The integrated shear pin design protects the spool and gear case (a replacement shear pin is included inside the winch cover). Other important features of the DH-40 include: a manual circuit breaker that protects the motor and electronics against electrical burnout, a safety lock that prevents inadvertent deployment of anchor during transport, an anchor shackle that allows easy removal of the anchor, and 40-pound anchor capacity (anchor not included) that works with CrabClaw and most other anchor styles. Minn Kota Introduces DeckHand 40 and DeckHand 20 Electric Winches to Accessories Product Line The DH-40 utilizes the same hole pattern as previous Minn Kota DeckHand models (DH-18 and DH-35), allowing current DeckHand customers the opportunity to upgrade. The hole pattern is also compatible with Minn Kota’s PD/AP quick release bracket mount (MKA-16-02, sold separately) for convenient, quick removal of the DeckHand unit. The DH-40 operates on a 12-volt battery system, is pre-spooled with 100 feet of 800-pound test rope and has a two-year warranty. The manufacturer’s suggested retail price for the DeckHand (DH-40) is $269.99. For console operation of the DH-40, a 25-foot corded remote switch is available as an optional accessory (list price is $39.99). (Editor’s Note: The DH-40 was introduced to the media in July 2002, but due to production delays it never made it into the market. Its first availability to consumers was January 2004.) DeckHand 20 Minn Kota’s new DeckHand-20 (DH-20) has a redesigned motor that delivers higher torque than previous models. The new manual circuit breaker protects the motor and electronics from electrical burnout. Minn Kota’s exclusive auto-deploy system on the DH-20 lowers the anchor into the water with the touch of a button, then automatically stops the winch when the anchor touches bottom. The special anti-drag system creates an “auto drift” feature by releasing the rope on the anchor when tension is applied. Drifting can be prevented by simply pushing the button that locks the winch. The hole pattern of the DH-20 is consistent with DH-40, as well as older DeckHand models. DeckHand 20 (DH-20) retails for $199.99.
