Scientific Anglers Mastery Series Fluorocarbon Tippet Material Offers Patented Features For Utmost Abrasion Resistance

Fly Fishing- Scientific Anglers

Fly Fishing- ST. PAUL, Minn. - The latest improvements in fluorocarbon material is now available in 3M Scientific Anglers new Mastery Series Fluorocarbon II tippet spools, offered in sizes ranging from 7X up to OX. By using patented double-structured fluorocarbon, which combines two exclusive fluoro resins for softer, yet stronger material, "we provide fly anglers with a combination that creates a tippet that is stronger and abrasion resistant on the outside, but with a soft, supple core to make it easier to fish," said Del Kauss with Scientific Anglers product development team.

Scientific Anglers also formulated the tippet weights based on the fishing application. "The 7X up to 3X tippet material has an even softer, more supple core for use with lighter weight lines," Kauss said. "We have a harder core in the 2X, IX and OX tippets that is ideal for bigger fish and harsher environments."

Kauss mentions that in field-testing with the heavier weight tippets, they survived 'Striper Rash' and showed little or no abrasion when fishing around other structure.

With a refractive index nearly identical to water, the Mastery Series Fluorocarbon II tippet material offers the ultimate in ultra-low visibility. "This feature allow anglers to use a heavier weight tippet for less break-offs," notes Kauss. "Plus there's minimal water absorption, and the tensile and knot strength are unmatched in all the extensive testing we did."

In fact, notes Kauss, extensive testing of this new fluorocarbon materials shows that its actual break strength is higher than its rated pound test. The OX (10-pound test) tippet average break strength is at 12.9-pounds, and the 2-pound test 7X tested at 2.5-pounds before breaking. Each spool comes with 25-meters of tippet material.
