Release DAIWA UPGRADES LINE COUNTER REELS, ADDS COMPACT WALLEYE SIZE AND NEW ECONOMY MODELS TOO! Press Release Daiwa’s line counter reels have been a standard for years on the Great Lakes, where they helped usher in a new era of accuracy in controlled depth fishing. Now the standard SG reels have been upgraded with two stainless steel ball bearings, a gold anodized, forged aluminum spool and a rugged new aluminum handle. Built specifically for the walleye fisherman is a compact new SG17LCA model. Smaller in size, it also features the dual paddle handle preferred by most walleye anglers. “While the 27 sized reels are extremely versatile for most Great Lakes trolling, we have had numerous requests by walleye anglers for an even more compact model. And here it is, the SG17LCA”, commented Daiwa’s Bill Liston. “It’s a perfect size for the walleye trolling techniques used today.” MSRP for the SG reels runs from $84.95 to $94.95. Also new is an economy-priced series of Accudepth line counter reels that also include the new 17 size. MSRP for the Accudepth reels runs from $59.95 to $74.95. Release STEINER OPTICS LAUNCHES HIGH-END BINOCULARS FOR BIRDERS AND OUTDOOR EXPLORERS Press Release Building upon its reputation for bringing adventurers closer to nature, Steiner Optics has developed a line of high-performance binoculars specifically designed for birders and outdoor enthusiasts. Named after the small, swift and skilled hunting falcon that uses keen eyesight to track prey, the Steiner Peregrine is a compact, roof-prism binocular that offers excellent light transmission and exceptionally sharp optics. Working closely with its championship birding team and experts at the American Birding Association, Steiner engineered the Peregrine to deliver exactly what serious birders and nature lovers want – a lightweight, comfortable binocular with a precision close-focus system that resists the elements and allows for uninterrupted, extended viewing. “With input from a panel of birding experts, we worked with our optical engineers to create a binocular especially made for bird observation and all-purpose outdoor use,” said Sven Harms, vice president, sales and marketing for Pioneer Research, U.S. distributor for Steiner Optics. “The Peregrine has all the features that serious birders and nature observers demand.” Since birds are often visible for only seconds, observing their true colors in bright contrast and clearly identifying the most subtle color difference is extremely important to birders, according to Steiner’s studies conducted with amateur birders and ornithologists in the USA and in Europe. To help achieve a new level of brightness, Steiner equipped the Peregrines with a dielectric prism coating, through which over 40 layers of silicon and titanium are alternatively applied to the glass surface. This “Broad-Band Coating” (BBC) results in superior light reflection over a broader range of colors, compared to binoculars without the coating. The Peregrines are also phase corrected for sharpest possible, distortion-free images. The Peregrine features a large, fast and very smooth center-focus wheel that focuses from 6 feet to infinity with just a touch of the finger tip, an important feature for quick bird identification. With the lightest weight in its class and soft, non-slip rubber armoring, the Peregrine is comfortable and stable to hold. The comfort level is further enhanced by soft, face-shaped eye cups that feel good and prevent side light from entering and disturbing the image. Steiner-Germany is the world’s leading specialized binocular manufacturer, with a particular expertise in lens and prism manufacturing and lens coatings that are “tuned” to the observed target object. Steiner’s hunting binoculars favor the color of game at dusk and dawn, its marine binoculars reject blue haze and water reflections and its military binoculars reject enemy lasers and allow observation in near-darkness. The company’s new binoculars are adept at helping users quickly identify subtle true color differences of birds and other wildlife against the shade of dense foliage. Also, in the Steiner tradition, these new binoculars are waterproof and rugged and maintain their sharpness for many years. Available in 8x42 and 10x42 models, the Peregrine is shockproof, fogproof and Mil.-spec waterproof, maintaining its peak performance at any temperature and under any conditions. Its rugged, UV- resistant rubber armoring is nearly impervious to dust, moisture and even rough handling. The Peregrine’s dark-green, light-absorbing rubber body blends in with natural surroundings, providing an advantage when glassing for easily spooked species. And, with close-focus ranges as low as 5.5 feet, the Peregrine helps users detect color variations even in unexpected nearby encounters with birds. It was $350.00 plus some shipping which I don't recall. Some buddies built me a nice stand last year, but there wasn't time for walls, or even a real solid ladder. I appreciate their efforts since I couldn't get to camp until the evening before. It was a nice stand the only problem was I kept thinking to myself I had way to much going for me to be risking my life everytime I got up and down from it. This is a lot safer than nine out of ten home made ones and as I get older I catch myself thinking about safety more often. I'd guess she's about 80 pounds or so which doesn't make it very portable for me at least. It's too bad they can't make these with some space age alloy, or even abs plastic. The stand is very well made and once you get in place you're not going anywhere unless you want to. I also like it's ability to adjust to different size tress right down to just a little bigger than a few years old. I'm very pleased with it and know I won't be wandering about my next trip out of the tree when I'm up there. This is the first ladder stand I've owned and after a few mornings in it have to say this is the way to go. Make sure you pick the right spot the first time as you don't want to be tugging this dog through the woods during the season. Good Luck this year... 4 Jacob, Fayetteville, NC Hummingbird Pirahna 5 Fish Finder Fish Finders My Boss is going through a divorce so I took it off his hands and all he wanted was $80.00. I've seen these for close to $200.00 at local tackle stops. It goes all the way down to 600 feet which is good for some of the lakes I fish. The display is nice compared to some others I've seen that have to be shaded just to see the screens output. It also have the water temperature feature which is a lot better than ten years ago when you had to check it by hand. Kids now days don't know how good they have it. I have some problems hearing and I'm not sure if it's the tone I can't hear or just not loud enough. Sometimes my wife has to let me know when the tones are going off, but I guess you can't blame it on the machine. Solid buttons and the menu seems to be well thought out. The unit seems like it will stand up to most anything Mothernature brings on. I feel real bad for taking this off my boss's hands. Maybe when he gets back on his feet and has time for fishing I may give it back to him, yeah but then again maybe not. 3 Chuck O. Leuopold Scopes Vari X III Optics After reading another review about the PSE Baby G we just had to write another about how great the PSE Baby G is in our words. What a nice setup. My Step-Son and I purchased them at the beginning of Summer off Cabela's. They ran about $450 at the time, but now I see them other places a little cheaper. It's kind of like one stop shopping. Rather than spend several nights shopping for accessories and all we were able to buy them all in one place. What is most important to myself is every item was made for the bow, not some generic fitting items. It had been several years since I hunted archery and was mildly surprised at the weight of bows now days. Then I picked up the PSE baby G and was even more surprised at how light it was. For a few extra bucks they could have hired some people to fully put them together. I felt like it was Christmas morning again putting toys together for the kids. Don't get me wrong I enjoyed every second of putting it together, but would rather have been shooting. This a fine piece of machinery, light, well made, an 80% lket off what more do you want. To finalize I'm sure I'd be impressed with most any of the new compounds. The PSE Baby G takes the cake. I'm shooting better with it everyday. It's a pleasure to shoot. It's light and fast, and accurate. If you're ready to buy definitely take a look at this one. 5 Craig W. Bausch & Lomb Custom 10x40 Binocular Optics Paid about $160 on-line at Cabela's. I needed a pair of binoculars for duck hunting and didn't want to pay an arm and a leg. Adjustments are really sweet. It's hard for me, apparently because of how close my eyes are, to get a pair of binoculars that really works for me. This model is very comfortable and the optics are just as clear as day. I guess I would have preferred an armored casing and maybe camo pattern, but the black is not really that shiny and probably won't cause me a problem when I'm sitting in my blind. Obviously, bausch & lomb are quality optics and these binoculars are proof of that. I think they were a bit expensive to tell you the truth, but I trust the brand and they've been around forever. I've never heard anything bad about them and I wanted to get a pair that would last for a while. 4 Jake Schlesinger Rivers Edge Deluxe Action Ladder Stand Tree Stands I bought the unit off of Discount Hunting Supplies.com just a few months back. I'm pshyced for this upcoming season although it's not coming fast enough. This is my first ladder stand and although it won't move as easily as a portable, it's not permanent like a home made job. I can't tell you how many times I've built a permanent stand only wishing I had moved a few feet this way, or that way. The unit it self seems very well constructed and don't let me forget that padded seat if you know what I mean. Since I've been moving mine quite a bit during scouting missions it gets pretty heavy after a while. I'm drenched in sweat every time I have to move it. So far that's the only thing I don't like about it. It has some flex to it which scared me at first so I gave it a good workout by doing my best to flex it, but it held strong. It's a nice little unit at a price that's tough to beat. I may just upgrade in a couple of years to one of those deluxe jobs, but for the time being this is great for me. 5 Standing Tall
